KidzFirst Canada Donates $500 to Families Branching Out Christmas Dinner
Last night KidzFirst Canada decided to make a Christmas donation to the Families Branching Out community Christmas dinner. Families Branching Out runs out of the Collingwood Neighbourhood House and is for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of young children (from 0 – 6 years old). The focus is on the health and well-being of young children, their families, and the relationship of families to their community. Children and parents can make new friends. Parents share resources, parenting skills, and child-minding and also learn positive ways to support each other.
Every Monday evening a delicious dinner is cooked by parents and youth and served to Families Branching Out members. The program, which, specifically welcomes low income families, Aboriginal families, and new-comer families, has grown in the last two years from 25-40 participants per session to 60-70 participants!
Last year the Families Branching Out Christmas dinner was huge success with Mr. and Mrs. Claus in attendance! They had well over 100 children and parents, and with the help of donations were able to feed everybody! They had 6 turkeys and 5 hams, a big chocolate cake, and Christmas hampers for low income families. The Community Police Centre donated lovely gifts for over 70 children. For the children involved it was a magical evening.
With the support of KidzFirst Canada Families Branching Out will once again make sure every family attending has a wonderful holiday meal and that the event is a highlight for the children during the Christmas season. This year this Families Branching Out Christmas Dinner takes place December 12th at Collingwood Neighbourhood House at 5288 Joyce St, Vancouver, BC V5R 6C9. You can call (604) 435-0323 for more information about attending or volunteering at this great event!
